Ok, so you would think after deciding that a Golden Retriever will be our family’s next dog … how hard could it be to find that next family member? I guess the answer to that question really all ties into the reality of “how much do you really know about what you are looking for”. As a small animal veterinarian, I have always loved the Golden Retriever breed. And in general, day in and day out in my profession, when it comes to my dog and cat patients, I get to see the very best and worst when it comes to pets’ medical and behavioral issues. So in the end, knowing that Goldens are without a doubt one of the nicest breeds that can unfortunately get some of the ultimate worst
issues, when it came to finding my family’s dream Golden – I searched VERY CAREFULLY – both long and hard.
What first grabbed my attention to Golden Meadows Retrievers was their terrific web site. Great information! Wonderful looking dogs! And when I called to chat with Tim the owner – right off the bat, we struck up great conversation and he really took the time to answer all of my questions.
The next step to our Golden acquisition journey, was to see Tim’s place in person. I just wanted to be sure as a veterinarian, that I felt really confident about the kind of breeding program that Tim had put in place. These days, you just can never be too careful. So my husband and I hopped a plan to Burbank and Tim spent some really great quality time with us one on one. I loved that his dogs all have hips, elbows, eyes and hearts assessed. You just can’t breed Goldens based upon their wonderful personalities alone – as many times, that can be a recipe for orthopedic disasterdom. He let us see the puppies. We got to meet the parents and some not too distant relatives as well. All in all, I was very impressed and in a blink of an eye, the deposit on our future family member was made.
Of course, as the days grew close to me flying back to Burbank to claim our new addition, my ultimate bad habit of needless second guessing began. What if the puppy is too shy? What if it doesn’t like me or even worse, my husband and children? What if the puppy simply isn’t a good match? But once again, communicating my angst to Tim, it didn’t take long for Tim and Alicia to kindly take the time to put my fears to rest.
When I got to Burbank and Tim’s employees met me at the airport with my new gorgeous little ball of fluff, I absolutely couldn’t contain my excitement. “Trevor” was absolutely stunning! He is such an amazing puppy! He is so outgoing! Not only was he excited to meet me for the first time with zero trepidation, he was also quite the social bunny star of the Burbank airport on our trip back home. He slept quietly the entire flight! He instantaneously bonded with my husband, 2 young children and our other dog as well. But wait … so much more !!!
I’ve been very impressed by how completely mellow of a personality Trevor has. He’s content to just “chill”. Loves to be held and cuddled. He’s been so easy to crate train and in just one week, his incredible smarts have already shone through – already quickly has been learning his name, some basic obedience commands and is getting the house-breaking concepts with very little difficulty (thank goodness!!!).
My family feels INCREDIBLY lucky to have found Golden Meadows. We are just so in awe, so amazingly impressed with our boy … and we look forward to many wonderful years of companionship with Trevor as a priceless member of our family.
Thanks Golden Meadows !!!! We just couldn’t be happier !!!
