Preparing Your Pup for Von Falconer Canine Training

If you want to have a happy and obedient dog as your companion, it is important that your pooch has been well taken care of from the beginning. The Von Falconer way is a method of puppy training that has pinpointed the most important developmental window in a puppy’s life and found a way to best take advantage of this time. Von Falconer canine training is a proven system used by professional trainers and breeders to teach young dogs important skills.

According to the Von Falconer method, the fourth week of life is the single most important week of a dog’s existence. At this stage, a puppy has become aware of himself and his environment and is ready to learn the rules of life. During this week, it is important to introduce as many different kinds and textures of puppy toys for the dog to play with. Playing with toys helps to prepare the dog for any kind of occupation it may have later in life. It is also important to keep the dog’s environment as static as possible and to avoid touching the animal too often.

During the fifth week of life, Von Falconer canine training stresses sound conditioning. Exposing young animals to loud or unusual noises like traffic and crying babies will keep them from being easily startled. Although it is okay to expose young animals to loud noises, it is important not to do so while they are coming towards you or otherwise focused on you, as this may cause them to associate the scary loud noise with people.

Learning to follow humans is the next important step in this training regimen. A trainer works with a single puppy in a large grassy area. The trainer first walks away from the puppy, and then encourages the dog to come to him. When the puppy does so, it is briefly rewarded with human contact. The maneuver is then repeated again and again until the dog automatically follows the trainer.

Von Falconer canine training is a gentle yet highly structured way to introduce young animals to life as a human companion. If you are interested in ensuring that your pet will live a happy life, consider starting them off on the right track with Von Falconer training.
